MASTERTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

The monthly meetingjof the Masterton Chamber of Commerec was held yesterday afternoon. There were present-Messrs G. C. Summerell 'chairman), C. Graham, W. E. Chamberlain, A. Henderson. W. B. Chennells, J. D, Ctuicksfoank, C. E. Daniel!.

The chairman brought up the matter of the proposed alteration In the railway time table for the Wai-1 rarapa. He was pleased to notice j that the Minister for Railways had i stated that there was no authority for the statements made as vet re • garding the alteration as it gave the Chamber a chance to deal with the matter. The matter was of grave importance to Masterton ; and h 0 moved that before any time table was passed that the Minister be asked to submit the matter to the Masterton Chamber in order to see how far any alterations would affect the Wairarapa. Mr J. D. Cruickahank seconded the motion, which was carried Mr Summerell then moved a further resolution to the effect that if the Minister agreed to the suggestion that a conference of Chambers of Commerce in the district, and also representatives from local bodies in« teresfced be held in Masterton, to consider the matter, and that the result of their deliberations be forwarded to the Minister.

This resolution was seconded by Mr Daniell, and was also carried unanimously.

The question of the proposed deviation of the Kimutaka incline was also discussed, members agreeing that the matter might be dealt with to \ advantage at the conference. Mr Cruickshank said he had made enquiries with regard to the alteration to the time table of the railway, 6nd he had been given to understand ttiat the statements made were not authorised. Mr Daniell submitted that the matter was important, and required their serious consideration. Mr Henderson said that probably the most urgent service was the early train from Wellington, which brought the mail to Masterton. He thought the Wellington Chamber would move in the matter as the de-

ay of this mail by several hours was « serious matter.
