In connection with the execution of Francisco Ferrer, foj.il guilty by n court-martial of being th. 1 instigator of the riots at Barcelona, Ferrer met his death in a cairn courageous manner. His eyej were bandaged, and he was attended bv two Brothers of Peace and Charity, hut refused the Sacrament. The firing party was chosen by lot. Barcelona is tranquil. , The reported execution was hastened, in order to avoid King Alfoi:so having to refuse the Pope's request for clemency. Captain Galcoram, Ferrer's counsel, has been threatened with arrest for excess of zeal in the presentation of the defence. All the shops were closed in Milan as a protest against the execution Eight thousand workmen in Turin struck, and the Labour leaders in Genoa ordered twenty-four hours' cessation of work. Genoa was in darkness, the trams were stopped, and the newspapers did not appear. There were demonstrations at the Spanish Consulates in several Italian towns. Ferrer founded a modern school at Barcelona no'ed for its antiMonarchist and anticlerical teaching, and the inculcation of anarchist morals among his pupils Ferrer was generally regarded as a philanthropist and dreamer, not a conspirator. The court-martial'a judgment was unanimous, and the Council of War and Cabinet endorsed it unanimously.

PREFECT OF POLICE SHOT AT.
Received October 15, 9 a.m. LONDON, October 14. Ten thousand persons, head 2d by M. Jarres, Socialist member of the Chamber of Deputies, member of Ferrer's Defence Committee (the Council of the General Confederation of Labour), demonstrated outside the Spanish Embassy in Paris. The crowd tried to break the police cordon, and set fire to two motor 'buses.
Revolvers were fired. One aimed at M. Lepine, Prefect of Police, killed a gendarme.
Finally, the police cleared the streets with drawn swords.

The Pope regrets the execution of Ferrer. He fears it will encourage anti-clericalism.
The maiority of the Paris rioters were hooligans of the lowest class, who were uninterested in Ferrer. Fifty were arrested. ROME, October 14.
The Mayor of Rome has issued a black-edged manifesto, stating: "Rome mourns with the civilised world." GREAT DEMONSTRATION IN MONTE VIDEO. MONTE VIDEO, Oct. 14. There was a great demonstration at Monte Video before the Spanish Legation. The crowd had to be dispersed.

FERRER ACTUAL INSTIGATOR OF THE RIOTS. MADRID, October 14. A member of the Spanish Cabinet has declared that Ferrer was the actual instigator of the Barcelona riots.
