BATTLE OF THE BUDGET.
MR ASQUITH'S METHODS. SHARP CRITICISM. Recaived October 14, J0.50 p.m. LONDON, October 14 "The Times" sharply criticises Mr Asquith's doub'tiess unintentional indiscretion which is helping his supporters to place His Majesty King Edward in the forefront of the Party conflict. "It can only have been upon Mr Asquith's advice," says "The Times," "that King Edward summoned Mr A. J. Balfour and the Marquis of Lansdowne. Queen Victoria'* action was always deferred until the crisis became clearly defined, and acute, and her influence was private—almost in secret." The "Chronicle" in the course of an article dealing with the present situation, says: "The British Parlia ment is the Mothei of Parliaments. The Liberals in the overseas dominions are watching the present controversy, with anxious concern. The Liberals of Britain are fighting the battle of popular institutions all the world over."
