MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Masterton School Committee was held last evening. There were present,— Messrs R. Brown (chairman), E. H. Waddington, C. Perry, T. J. Thompson, H. J. O'Leary, A. Hendry, G. A. Townsend A. W. Chapman. Accounts amounting to £47 19i 2d were passed for payment. Messrs A. Hendry, H. J. O'Leary, and C. Perry were appointed visting members for the month. The Treasurer's statement showed balance from last month £34 Ifts lid expenditure £23 4s 3d, balance at date £6l 6s Bd. The Headmaster's repnri for the past month was read as follows: Attendance.—Main School, roll 607, average attendance 554, percentage of attendance 91: Side School, roll 175, average attendance 156, percentage of attendance 90; Secondary Classes, roll 72. average attendance 68, percentage of attendance 94. The attendance for the month has been good in all three departments. I have pleasure in stating that a good percentage of attendance is now being regulan'y maintained For the year ended on the 31st December last, the percentage of attendance for the whole school was 90.5 In the annual repnrt of the-Minister of Education, which was presented to Parliament on Tuesday last, it will be noticed that the percentage of attendance for the whole of the schools in the Dominion, during the past year was 87.1 Otago district came first with 89.2 per cent., and Wellington second with 88.1 per cant. 1 anticipate that our percentage of /attendance for this year will be even higher than that of last year. I h»ve no names for the absentee list this month. Staff.— Miss B. Turner commenced duty as pupil teacher, on the 4th inst., in the place of Miss Braddoek, who was unable to take up the appointment. Cookery Room.—The whole of the floor of the cookery room has been covered with inlaid linoleum. The work has-been done in a very satisfactory manner, and the room has now a greatly improved appearance. Dona'.ions.—l have pleasure in handing to the Committee the sum of £7 4s, contributed by the senior scholars towards the cost of the recently acquired museum exhibits. The report was adpated.
