CAPTAIN SCOTT'S EXPEDITION. SUBSCRIPTION LIST OPENED IN LONDON. United Press Association- By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received October 14, 9 a.m. LONDON, October 13. The colonial agents-general were present at a meeting > consider the question of another Antarctic expedition. Sir George Truscotr, the Lord Mayor, announced that Lords Milner, Curzon and Strathcona, and the Royal Geographical Society supported the idea of an expedition under the leadership of Captain Scott, R.N., who commanded the National. Antarctic expedition in 1900-04. It was stated that the biggest item was wages. They could man the ships with unsalaried men tomorrow, but the geologist would know nothing about geology, and the cook would be unable to cook. It was proposed to spend £12,000 in purchasing a vessel. Sir Edgar Speyer (director of the London house of Speyer Bros.l opened a subscription list, donating a thousand pounds.
