Mr and Mrs J. M. Levin, of Pahia- [ tiia, intend taking up their residence in Auckland. Mr Alfred Hosking, aged ,69, for 26 years headmaster of Mount Eden Public School, Auckland, died yeater day. Captain Pavitt, Officer Commanding the Civil Service Rifles, Christchurch, who was killed in the motor car accident at Riccarton, on Wednesday afternoon last, was a cousin of Mr H. H. Pavitt, of Masterton. The Rev. D. C. Dolamore, the first Baptist minister to reach New Zealand, is still living in Christchurch, and still. maintaining a very keen interest in the work of the churches. Mr Dolamore will be ninety years of age next month. Mr T. T. King, Inspector of Post Offices for Otago and Southland has been appointed postmaster at Napier and is to go to that; town at an early date to take u'p'his new duties. Prior to his present appointment Mr King was f)r many years postmaster at Gore. . • A quiet wedding was celebrated yesterday, the contracting parties being Miss Mizpah Berry and Mr Thomas Donaldson, botK of Masterton. The ceremony was performed by Rev. A. T. Thompson at the residence of the bride's grandmother, Mrs Hayes, George Street. On Wednesday morning, Mr A.R Stace, of Aokautere, oneof the oldest settlers in the Fitzherbert district, died euddenly. Death was due to heart failure. He was 63 year 3 of age, and had resided on the banks of the Manawatu river for between thirty and forty years, being one of the best-known settlers in the district. The late Mr Stace was a brother to Mr Walter Stace, of ( Te Matai.' He leaves a .widow and three children (Mrs Anderson, of Stratford, Miss Ethel Stace and Mr Ernest Stace). Mr John Wilkinson, the Dunedin I secretary of the Evangelisation Society of Australasia, informs the "Otago Daily Times", that the R&v J. Q. A. Henry, D.D., of New York, the great Gospel and temperance preacher ot America, intends visiting New Zealand about June next. He will be ac-ompanied by Professor Peter P. Bilhorn, who is regarded as the most noted hymn-writer, soloist | and choir-leader in America, and who j i 3 the author of over 2,000 hymns, and has a score of musical publica-! tionß. Mr John Guy., who has been sta-, tionmaster at the Bluff since Janu-1 ary 1004, is "deaf. >. Mr Guy had j Ueen in'fanihg' health for some time, i due to'"" heart trouble, J had* not J been on duty since July last. He joined the railway service in Dunedin in December, 1881, and in 1882 was appointed to the charge of Pukerau station. Prom there he went to Orepuki, this being in April, 1885, thence to Kingston in 1886, to Edendale in }B9O. Iu December, 1897, he was removed to Inglewool. and saw service at Onehunga and New Plymouth before he returned to the South Island, when he was appointed stationmaster at Bluff, this being in January. 1904. Mr R. Notton, of Ponsonby, Auckland, fought as a boy in the China : War of 1857' and 1858. He has just. received his medaj for that campaign under Interesting circumstances (says the "Star"). After serving in the China War he came out to this sta' tion, and "served on board H.M.S. , Miranda in Auckland harbour. His medal was brought out by H.M.S. Orpheus, under Commodore Burnett, but that, Vessel,.foundered/ on .the Manukau bar on February 7th, 1863, ' and it was not until recently that Mr Notton decided to apply for another medal to,replace the one lost in the wreck. Mr Notton joined the navy " in 1855, and was serving on Trafalgar Day of that year on boarc : Nelson's Victory in Portsmouth har " bour in the school of apprentices, 3 whence 'he was drafted as a first 1 class boyJ He went to the Chim ; station, under Commodore Keppel, ii 3 H.M.S. Raleigh, the vessel whicl * foundered in the Straits of Malacca ' in 1857. 'He obtained his discharge ii 1869.
