MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee of the Masterton County Council met yesterday morning. The treasurer reported as follows:—General fund account, dr., £4,824 14s 9d; Local Bodies Loans Account, cr.. £5,001 15s 6d; accounts, dr balance £837 16s 2d. The receipts since September 14th totalled £2,950 10s 4d, of which the principal items were rates totalling £422 16s 6d, and two Government subsidies of £1,532 3s and £I,OOO. Accouts totalling £950 0s 8d were passed for payment. It was resolved, That the committee does not see its way to recommend the Council to adopt any system of differential ratine; in connection with the Lansdowne water supply, but adheres to the opinion, that the usual course of rating all the properties within the special rating area on their capital value should be adhered to; that the committee is unable to recommend to the favourable consideration of the Council the claim of W. S. Attenborrow for compensation for an accident that occurred to him on the Upper Plain Koad on September 13th; that it be an instruction to the clerk, as scon as the total expenditure in connection with the extension of Colomba Koad through Cockburn Street has been ascertained, to prepare an account
thereof and forward the same to the Borough Council with a view to the payment of their share of the work. The report was adopted
