(From Our Resident Reporter) Tuesday. WEDDING. A stylish wedding was celebrated at S, Peters' Church, this morning, when Mr John Gilbert Swainson, son of the late Mr W. Swainson, of Palmerston North, was married to Miss Amelia 'Millie) Avery, youngest daughter of Mr Charles Avery, of Brightfield, Pahiatua. The ceremony was performed by Kev. Isaacson, and the bride, who was attired in a beautiful dr°ss made Empire style, of white satin, trimmed with silk Maltese lace, carried a lovely shower bouquet, and wore the orthodox veil and orange blossoms. She was given away by her father, and Misses Mary and Margaret Marshall, nieces of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids. They were neatly attired in white muslin, trimmed with lace and each carried bouquets. Mr Charles W. Swainson was best man. Mrs Avery (mother of the bride) was dressed in a lovely gown of dnve-coloured silk trimmed with tueked net and silk Maltese lace, and wore a lovely floral hat trimmed with violets to match, Mrs Cross (sister) saxe blue silk trimmed With Malice lace. Mr Swainson is well-known in sporting circles, he being a promin ■ ent golf, tennis and football player, GENERAL. At the meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council, last evening, a deputation from the Pahiatua Cricket Club waited on the Council and asked j that something be done to the Recreation Ground so that it would be possible to play cricket on it during the coming summer. A meeting of the Cricket Club ■* was held last evening, when it was decided to reduce the subscription from 10s to 5s for senior players, and to 2s 6d for juniors up to 16 years of age. This year there seems a good prospect in front of the Cricket Club. As the Club have a number of liabilities to meet members are' requested to pay their subscriptions to the secretary as soan as possible. IJuring the quarter ending Septenv ber 30th, two bankruptcies were recorded in the Pahiatua district. The local Court returns for the three months ending September 20th, show that nine certificate., for marriages were issued, 42 births were registered and ten deaths occurred. .There were 16 criminal court sittings, and six sittings of the civil caurt were held. Thj aggregate amount sued xor Was £1,264 17s 2d, £BB2 7s 7d being recovered. One hundred and ten plaints, 11 distress warrants and six judgment summonses issued. The amount of civil fees paid in stamps was £56 12s. In connection with 38 criminal cases 34 persons were summarily convicted, the criminal fines and fees paid in stamps being £ls 12s. Fifteen "old-age pensions were granted and none refused. The Woodville Mutual Improvement Society will close their session to-morrow (Wednesday) evening by holding an ideal banquet.
