The news was received in Masterton, last evening by cable of the death at Melbourne of Mrs Selina Sutherland. The deceased lady, who was well advanced in years, was well known in Masterton, particularly among the earlier residents, and the announcement of her demise will be keenly felt. In the Wairarapa her name is associated with deeds of heroism and self sacrifice, and in fact her whole life was devotad to assist ing those in troubles. The establishment of the Masterton Hospital was in a great measure due to her energetic efforts in raising subscriptions. A3 illustrating her devotion to the sick it might be mentioned that ou one occasion she went out to the assistance of five or six men who were stricken down in a woolshed at Moioa with typhoid nursing them to health and strength again. In Melbourne her work in tho cause of organising hoims for waifs was greatly admired.
