Monday. Yesterday afternoon the funeral of the little daughter of Mrs ML Harris, of Maungatarere, took plae« at the Clareville Cemetery in the presence of a number of friends. A short service was held at the house by the Rev. L. Thompson, of St. Andrew's Church, and also at the graveside. Mr W. Ashley has been appointed relieving headmaster at the Dalefield School. A horse attached to a gig belonging to Mr Thomas Ross, of Tauherenikau, became restive in High street on Saturday afternoon during the owner's temporary absence,- the animal being in charge of a friend. It backed the vehicle into the concrete kerbing, the sudden impact causing the animal to fall, breaking both shafts, and throwing both ! occupants out, who fortunately escaped injury. An unfortunate accident happened I at Kokotau on Saturday to an em--1 ployee of the Wairarapa South i County Council, named J. M. Smith. He was engaged in a gravel pit, i when a fall of earth came down on J him driving the blade of his shovel into his leg, and in addition to inflicting a severe gash causrd a , compound fracture of the .limb. He ! was attended by Dr. Johnston, and ' later removed to the Hospital at ' Greytown. j Last evening the organ in St. Mark's Church was presided over ; by Mr H. S. Claughton, organist of | St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, ■ who at the close of the service j gave a short organ recital, which 1 was listened to and appreciated by ! a large congregation. During the ! recital. Mrs Claughton very nicely .'rendered the solo "Come Unto Me." A fair amount of ground at.Waihakeke is under cultivation this year.
