LONDON MARKETS.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, September 11th, 1909: The mutton market is firmer, and has been greatly affected by reports ol small shipments. There is a good demand for all qualities, and holders are not anxious to sell. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3£d per lb, and North Island at 3d. The lamb market has advanced, and further advance is probable, although stock is heavy for late in the season. Canterbury brands are quoted at 3Jd) per lb, and North Island at 3 Id. The beef market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. New Zealand hinds are quoted at 3£d per lb. and fores at 2{jd per lb. The butter market is firm, and demand is chiefly for best quality. Australian butter has arrived, and is sailing at 112s per cwt. for salted and l}4'3 per cwt,' for unsalted. Danish is quoted at 120s per cwt., and Siberian at 104s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet, and small business doing. There is a slight fall in prices all round. New Zealand is quoted at 583, and Canadian at 575. The hemp market is quiet, but steady. Transactions are light. New 'Zealand good fair grade on spot per ton is quoted at £25 15s; New Zealand fair grade on spot per ton, £24 15s; fair current Manila, on spot, per ton, £24 10?. The October-De-cember shipments New Zealand goud fair grade per ton, £25 10s; New Zealand fair grade per ton £24 10s; fair current Manila per ton £23 10s; Manila output 24,000 bales. The wool market is firm and a good demand is expected for coarse crossbreds; all grades 36's, low crossbreds, Is; 40's, low crossbreds, Is o£d; 44"s medium crossbreds, Is 2d; 50's, halfbreds, Is 7d; 56's, quarterbreds, Is 10jd; 60's, merinos, 2a 3Jd. The wheat market has declined further on account of English offer, ings. Nrw Zealand log-berried wheat on v spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4951b5, is quoted at 39s 6d; New Zealand short berried wheat, on spot, ex granary, per quarter, 4961b5, 395. There is a large supply of oats, and the market is weak and inactive. New Zealand oats short sparrow bills, ex granary on spot, per quarter of 3841b5, 25s 6d. New Zealand oats, Danish, ex granary, on spot, per quarter of 3201b5, 20s. River Plate shipments received during August:— Mutton. Lamb-.
