Eastern files contain details of the recent great fire at Osaka, in Japan. The fire raged for 25 hours, and, despite the efforts o£ 600 firemen, 2,000 police, and an enormous force of troops, devastated an area of two and a-half miles in length and a quarter to half a mile in breadth. The law courts were destroyed, together with many public buildings, including the Governor's house, schools, temples and museums. A large number of warehouses and 13,000 houses were also swept away by the flames. A strong wind, the long-continued drought, and poor tire brigade equipment were factors assisting in the disaster.
