ANNUAL FOOTBALL MATCH.

BANKS AND LAW v. STOCK AND STATION.

The Masterton Showgrounds was yesterday afternoon the scene of the annual football match between the Bank and Law Clerks and the Stock and Station Agent Clerks. In the first spell JN. Chamberlain scored for the Banks and Law, R. McKenzie converting. In the second spell the Banks and Law scored 17 points. Tries were scored by N. Chamberlain, R. McKenzie, E. Houston, C. J. McKellar and Waddington, one of which R. McKenzie converted. The Stock and Station Agents scored 3 points (an unconverted fry by 'A. E. Baker). The final scores were:— Bank and Law, 22; Stock and Station, 3. Mr B. Chapman was referee. During the afternoon Mr A. P. Fielding took up a collection in aid of the Hospital Funds, which, with the Government subsidy, will yield about £5 ss.

THE SMOKE CONCERT

Over one hundred were present al the smoke concert held in the evening in* the Arcadia Tea Rooms, at whicli Mr G. C. Summerell presided. Tiie gathering took the form of the usual symposium, and mrny d};u7.: teristic speeches Werfi givei, anecdotes related, and other appropriate items of music and song rendered. A very dainty repast was spread by Miss Finnis, who was accorded an enthusiastic vote at the conclusion. The toast and musical list was as follow:—"The King." the chairman; "The Legal Profession and Bankers," Chairman—Messrs H. C. Robinson and W. H. L. Galwey; "Stock and Station Agents," Mr C. A. Fownail—Mr J. B. Moodie and Mr D. Caselberg; "The Winning Team," Mr M. Iggulden—Mr R. McKenzie (captain winning team): "The Referee," Mr J. B. Henry—Mr B. 'Chapman; "Kindred Sports," Mr D. K. Logan—Mr C. Peiry; "The Ladies," Mr A. R. Sclandera; "The Press," Mr G. H. Cullen. During the evening Mr Branson presided most ably at the piano, and Sor.gs were rendered by Messrs E. J. Mirams, G. C. Branson, E. H. Sharp, J. B. Moodie, F. H. Elcuate.jW. Pownail, P: L. Gully
