(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. To-morrow Mr and Mrs W. J. Hill and family will leave Carterton for Petone, where they will in future reside. Mr and Mrs Hill have, during their residence in Carterton, made many friends, who will regret their The change is being made for the benefit of Mra Hill's health. Last evening a poster ball was held at Clareville, the attendance being spoiled somewhat by the unfavourable weather. However, those who braved the elements were rewarded with an enjoyable evening. Among the "posters" were "Baillie's Mintolene," Miss Ray; "Jack and Jill " Miss Maxfield; "Ginger Beer and Cordials," Miss "Gipsy Queen," Miss Hooker; "Coleman's Mustard," Miss Wilshurst. Mr Woodley played the music, and a dainty supper was provided by th'fj ladies. The social held last fajght in th£ Methodist Schoolruotn Under the auspices of the Ladies' Guild was a very successful affair, and a very pleasant vocal and musical programnie was contributed by several person present. A competition called "A Flower Wedding" created some amusement, the answers tu the questions connected with it being flower names, the winner being Miss Maud Andrew?, of Wellington. Exceptionally heavy rain fell here to-day, The ladies of Parkvale are arranging to hold a paper hat carnival on September 16th. Mesdames Denbee and Eaton have the affair in hand, as joint secretaries. The Boiough Council met last evening, Mr A. Armstrong (Mayor) presiding. The debit balance was reported at £334 2s Id, and account amounting to £248 lis lid were passed for payment. The Finance Committee recommended a grant of £25 to the Fire Briagde. The building inspector reported having issued permits for buildings and improvements to the vslue of £770 during the month. An application from the Vestry of St. Mark's Church for the use of the high pressure water to supply power for the pipe organ was granted. The resolutions of the conference in regard to retaining the service's of the sanitary inspector were adopted; Cr W. H. Whyte was elected to the vacancies to the Domain and Carter's Aged Men's Committees. The bylaw prohibiting the driving of stock along High Street was amended to extend as far as Renford Street,and will come into operation on September 10th.
