THE POLICE COMMISSION.

By Teleyraph —Press Association. AUCKLAND, September 1. At the Police Commission this morning, Sergeant Treanor said he had worked under seven commissioners, and Mr Dinnie was as capable as any of them, and a great deal better than most of those who had been at the head of the department. Chief Detective Marsack expressed the opinion that many good men were prevented from entering the force because they did not possess a fifth standard certificate. He held that the police, with the emoluments they rceieved, were better off than the detectives. He also gave an emphatic contradiction to the allegation that the police had harassed discharged prisoners who were striving to earn an honest living. The man alleged to have committed suicide for the reason stated was wanted by the police, and a warrant was out for_his arrest.
