I The Timaru Presbytery have nominated the Rev. J. H. M'Kenzie, of Nelson, as Moderator of the General ' Assembly. With the exception of the Hon. D. ttuddo, who is in the Auckland district, all the Ministers of the Crown are in Wellington. ££* "£Mr A. T. Maginnity has been elected Chairman of the Nelson Education Board for the fourth consecutive term. The death occurred at Milt<?n last week of Miss L. E. Toogond, sister of Messrs John Tocgocd and Henry Toogood, of Featherston. Mr W. C. Stone, postmaster at Caversham, retired last month after 44 year's service, and with the remarkable record cf never having been absent for a single hour on sick leave. Mr H. W. King, on the staff of the Greytown District High School, has accepted an appointment on the staff of the Auckland Grammar School. A Press Association message states that the Southland Employers' Assod ciation has resolved to support Mr W. Scott's candidature for the vacant position of employers' representative on the Arbitration Court. Mr A. T. Parkes, who is resign ing the position of secretary to the Wellington Lacrosse Association, consequent upon his removal to Masterton, was, on Saturday evening, presented by Mr A. H. Casey, on b,ehaif of the Management Committee and lacrosse players of Wellington, with a case of pipes as a token of goodwill and an appreciation ■of his services to lacrosse in the past. Mr O. C. Pleasants, whe contestet the Oroua aeat in the Libera! interest! at the last general elections, was entertained at Feilding by friends and supporters last week. 4 Mr West, who waa chairmar. of Mr Pleas mts' Fielding committee during the election campaign presided, and Mr J. Morrison, on behalf of supporters, presented Mr Pleasants with a purse of sovereign. Mr John Fraser, who has been District Land Valuer in the Wairarapa for the past ten years, left Masterton yesterday to take charge of the Hawke's Bay district, where he will commence his new duties to-mor-row. Mr Fraser's district will extend from Napier to Woodville. Mr Eraser's assistant, Mr 'Fowler, is alno leaving to take charge of Taihape district, but the name of the new Masterton valuer has not yet been announced. Mr Fraser has. during his sojourn in the Wairarapa, proved himself an official of exj ceptional ability, and he will carry with him the best wishes of a large circle of friends in his new sphere of work.
