ANOTHER UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT. Received August 30, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, August 29. E. Heaton, the swimmer,!*made an attempt to cross the English Channel, but had to abandon" it within a mile of the French coast, after being in th water seventeen hours.
