INGENIOUS PLEADING.

To the Editor. Sir, —ln your issue of yesterday a correspondent signing himself "Observer" pleads very ingeniously tor the Waingawa site as being the most suitable for the proposed freezing works, but I think it is possible to discern in his letter that he is more interested in the matter of site than the welfare of the co-operative freezing company. Waingawa may be the best site so far as the Wairarapa is concerned, but Wellington, it must be admitted, is the really proper place. The country naturally feeds the town and what is the use of endeavouring to reverse a natural law? Of course, if one has a special interest at stake the question may assume a different aspect, or one may argue himself into believing so. But apart from the question |of site, which is merely a side issue, for what is another meat company wanted? Our able member for the district (Mr W. C. Buchanan) has counselled caution, and has backed up his arguments with facts which to the mind of intelligent men cannot be readily explained away. Let the question of site be settled in an unbiassed manner, but not before it has been shown that a real need for the new company exists! —I am, etc., I FARMER. Opaki, August 25th.
