The report of the principal teacher at Norfolk Island states that the difficulties in the way of teaching English are peculiarly great. The familiar vehicle of expression is an island patois. To many children correct English is a foreign tongue, and has to be learned as such. He pays tribute to the scholars' regular attendance. The gross number enrolled is 164, and the average attendance 136.
