CUSTOMS RETURNS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, August 2. The Customs returns for July show a decrease of £297 as compared with the Customs revenue for. July last year, and this, despite the fact that the revenue from the importation of spirits shows an increase of £155. The falling off is in tobacco (£206), cigars and cigarettes (£43), wines (£33), goods by weight, general (£197), and "other duties not specified" (£36). The excise duty on beer shows an increase of £25 as compared with excise revenue of July, 1908, representing an increased local brew of 2,000 gall6ns. AUCKLAND, August 2. The net Customs duties collected at Auckland, in July, amounted to £55,267, against £60,849 in July, 1908. The gold shipments totalled £150,967, as compared with £114,415.
