MINING.
THE AUCKLAND BOOM. By Telegraph—Press Asaiciation. WAIHI, June 24. Since the intersection of the main Martha lode in the north cross cut at No. 5 level in the Waihi Grand Junction Mine, on Thursday last, a distance of 22 feet has been penetrated, with no sign of the footwall. Indications show that it will prove an immense body of ore. The first ten feet gave an average value of 18s per ton. Subsequently the average value improved to over *4 perton, and the present face shows further improvement] In the south cross cut at the same level the face of the Empire lode is 30ft wide, and the avearge value over £3 per ton. The latest reports from the Waihi Extended mine show a marked decrease of flow of water from drill holes in the face of the reef struck some weeks back, but which has been untouched lest the volume of water, if the reef was broken into, would be too great to cope with.
