POLLARD'S JUVENILE OPERA COMPANY.

In the history of mankind the wisdom of the ages preaches one sermon, and that is "The Survival or the Fittest." After thirty years' continuous playing Planquette's melodious work "Rip Van Winkle." with which the Pollard's Juvenile Company will renew acquaintance with > local playgoers to-night, is still a standard attraction throughout England and America, and is found in the repertoire of most touring companies. This is not to be wondered at, as the music :s melodious, the story coherent and known to every schoolboy, while there is sufficient comedy to make a happy olend of laughter and tears. "Rip" is also an opera that lends itself to magnificent mounting and dressing, and when it is stated that Mr Pollard has taken every advantage of the opportunities offered, then lovers of spectacle may look forward to a rare treat. As the opera is a lengthy one I the curtain will rise at eight o'clock sharp. To-morrow night the attraction will be Lecoq's comic opera ] "Manola." A feature of this production will be the magnificence of the costumes, which will give playgoers an idea of the splendour of the seventeenth century dresses.
