BOROUGH COUNCIL VACANCY.
MR J. HUNTER REQUISITIONED. A requisition was on Saturday night presented to Mr J. Hunter (who contested the Mayoralty with the present Mayor), asking him to contest the vacancy on the». Borough Council, caused by Cr J. Yarr's resignation. A deputation composed of several leading townsmen, and headed by Mr W. Easthope, waited upon Mr Hunter, and pressed him to offer himself for a seat on the Council at the present opportune time, in support of their request, stating that Mr Hunter,s past work on the Council had been of a valuable nature, and pointing out that it was highly expedient that an energetic representative should be relturned. Mr Hunter thanked the deputation for their confidence in him, and said that he would duly consider their representations. He had, he said, almost definitely decided not to contest the vacancy, but in view of the visit of the deputation he would give t.he matter further consideration and reply in a day or two. The deputation thanked Mr Hunter, ar.d withdrew.
