The Right Hon. Joseph ChamberJain v?ill celebrate his 73rd birthday on July 7th. Constable Armour, of Grey town, will take up his new duties; at Patea this week, leaving Greytown on Thursday next. Ihe friends of Mrs Rayner, of Chapel street will regret to learn that she burst another blood vessel on Friday evening last, and her condition is more seiioua than it was on a former occasion. Mr H. J. Jeffries, who has been' in the Post -and Telegraph . Department for the past 36 years, for the last ten of which he has been postmaster at Cambridge, is retiring from the service at the end of the present-month. The friends of Mr A. G. Johnson, who was for many years to the Wellington Benevolent Trustees, and who has been confined to his bed for some months, will be sorry to learn that his illness has assumed a serious phase. Miss Prentice, who was for many years in business in Masterton, but who is now engaged in, Messrs Hordern Bros.' drapery establishment, Sydney, is spending a holiday in Masterton, and is staying with her brother, Mr J. P. Prentice. Conatable Hodgson, of the Mannerb street Police Station, Wellington, has, after 21 years' service, beeu promoted to the rank of ser geant, and transferred to the South | Island. Constable Cummings, district clerk at Napier, and formerly of the Wellington District Office, has been similarly promoted. He will be retained as district clerk at Napier. The death occurred last evening about 9 o'clock of Miss N. jollier, eldest daughter of Mr of Wrigley street, Masterton. The deceased, who'was about 18 years of age, was of a bright and cheerful disposition, and was very popular amongst her friends, who will learn • with keen regret of her early demise. The relatives will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement. The funeral will take place on next, at 2.30 p.m.
