A REFEREES' STRIKE.
TROUBLE IN AUCKLAND HOCKEY CIRCLES. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 1. The strike of referees on Saturday has caused quite a commotion in hockey circles. The Referees' Association met on Monday evening, but the usual business of drawing up a list of referees for Saturday was not proceeded with. The following evening the Auckland Hockey Association met, and a lengthy discussion ensued on the matter. As an outcome, the following motion was carried: "In reference to the appointment of Mr W. E. Robinson as referee in the United-Auckland match, the committee of the Auckland Hockey Association, after hearing Mr E. E. Madden, on behalf of the Referees' Association, acknowledge that Mr Robinson's appointment was made under a misapprehension as regards his resignation, and assure the Referees' Association that no offence was meant to them''. r A special meeting of the Auckland Hockey Referees' Association was held last evening at the Amateur Sports Club to consider the resolution of the Auckland Hockey Associaion. After a lengthy discussion, the referees decided to adhere to their position, maintaining that the Hockey Association could not have been under a misapprehension or ignorant of the position, in view of a letter received by them at a special meeting held the night before the match. From a players* point of view the position is serious, and another meeting of the Auckland Assocation will be held to reconsider the position.
