PERSONAL.
Mr E. H. von Sturmer, of the State i Fire Office, Wellington, has been transferred to Auckland. Mr R. Bragato, who has been Government Viticulturist for some ( years, at a salary of £325, is about ' to be retired on superannuation. Mr A. E. Laery, of Featherston, secretary of the Wairarapa Racing Club, will leave shortly for Queensland, where he intends to spend a month's holiday. _ ___ ' Mr F. Harris, a member of the Gisborne Borough Council, is at ! present on a visit to Masterton, and has inspected various borough works, including the septic tank. Mr Harris will be the guest of Mr and Mrs Leggatt during his stay in Masterton. ——» Mr J. C. Blackmore, Government Pomologist in the South Island, will leave for Nelson and the West Coast this evening. He is to retire from the service on August 31st. Mr Black more joined the Agricultural Department 16 years ago. The Prime Minister and Lady Ward will lbave by the Manuka for Sydney, en route to London, on Friday. They will be accompanied by Mr Jas. Hislop, Premier's private secretary, who went with Sir Joseph Ward on his trip Home in 1906, to attend the Postal Conference. Mr R. Stewart, the wril-known manager for the Williamsoi? Theatrical Companies, met with an accident to his knee and hip while in Perth, managing the Julius Knight Company. About the time of Mr Stewart's accident Mrs Stewart, who was in Melbourne, was thrown out of a buggy and injured her collar-bone. There died recently at Stithians, Cornwall, at the age of ninety-two, Mr Benjamin Trewin. for many years in business in the town. He left a family of three daughters and one son, Mr James Trewin, of New Zealand. Mr J. B. Trewin, Mayor of Feilding, is a grandson of the deceased gentleman. Mr Ballard, Inspector of Telegraphs at Dunedin, who will be retired on pension at the end of the monhc, will be succeeded by Mr Harrington, officer-in-charge at Wellington. It is understood that Mr Chisholm will be promoted to the position of Engineer of Telegraphs for the Nelson district, which position was to have been filled by Mr Harrington.
