The Second Test Match between the Australian cricketers and an All-England team began to-day, at Lord's Ground. The weather was hot, drying the wicket, which was difficult at the outset, but less treacherous than had been expected. Noble won the toss, and sent the English eleven in first. ; Macartney and Laver opened the ' bowling, Hayward and Hobbs batting resolutely. At 21 Cotter relieved Macartney, and in Laver's next over Hobbs. who had been at the wickets iialf an hour, was taken at the wick- t ets by Carter. Ona for 23. At 84 Noblo took the place of Laver. Hayward hit a couple of fourers in one over off Cotter; then he played forward to Laver, who had resumed bowling, ana was finely stumped on the leg side. He had batted soundly for fifty-five minutes. Two for 41. Tyldesley and Gunn were now together, but the latter got leg before after scoring a single. Three tor 44. At lunch time three wickets were down for 82. On resuming. King commenced with two fourers off Laver's first over. Cotter registered a couple of wides. Tyldesley scored with more freedom, but at 46 he got leg before to Laver, after a watchful, sound innings, lasting 115 minutes, during which he hit three fourers. Four for 123. MacLaren, in attempting a drive, put the btll up in the slips to Armstrong. His seven runs were the result of two hits, and his innings occupied forty minutes. Five for 149. Received Juns 15, 6 p.m. LONDON, June 15. Runs came fast in the concluding moments of the innings. Lilley hit 11 in one over of Cotter's, and 10 in his next over. Lilley's partership with Relf occupied 50 minutes. The former gave a fine display of driving, and his score included five fourers. The innings lasted 320 minutes.

The official figures show that 19,964 persons paid for admission.
