CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) ""*, Tuesday. The news which was circulated here on Saturday that W. With the idea of providing some recreation for the aged men in Carter's Home, a suggestion has been made that the Committee, who govern the institution, should lay down a bowling green, capable of accommodating two rinks, and provide half-a-dozen pairs of bowls This would provide excellent amusement for the inmates during summer. Mrs D. J. Lovelock, formerly of Clareville, and now of Bunnythorpe, won the trophy presented to the Clareville Tennis Club by Mrs J. J. Granestock for the ladies' handicap singles. While playing at the Belvedere school last week a son of Mr S. Cranch had the misfortune to have a finger broken. He was endeavouring to catch one of his playmates when he got his finger caught in the boy's pocket, with the result that the lad, turning, suddenly, broke the little fellow' 3 finger. The half-yearly installation meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., was held last evening, Bro. E. Wallis, A.D., presiding. Visitors were present from Stonhenge Lodge, Masterton, and Fern Leaf, Greytown. Dr. E. W. Smyth wrote accepting the appointment as a medical officer of the Lodge. A challenge to a card tournament was accepted from Stonehenge Lodge, and it was decided to suggest July Ist as the date. Four friends were proposed for membership, and one initiated. The officers for the ensuing year wee installed by Bro. Nicholls, District President, and a social evening followed. The local Fire Brigade will hold a social and dance on Thursday evening. Hitherto dances held by the Brigade have proved very enjoyable, and it is expected that the function on Thursday evening will be well patronised.
