Nelson papers report the death of Mrs James Knapp, of Spring Grove, who arrived in Nelson in 1842. At the parade of the Mounted Rifles, last evening, Captain McKillop presented the Bolton Cup to Trooper W. Bannister, the trophy being won by him at Eketahuna recently The Cup is a challenge cup to be held for. a year. ~ The Rev. G. K. Stoweil, of Wa> rarapa South, was yesterday at the Wellington Presbytery meeting appointed Moderator of Martinborough during the ministerial vacancy in that place. The death is announced of another old Wanganui resident in the pertcn of Mr Daniel Harding, who passed away at h)s late residence, Arau.oho, last Saturday, at the advanced age of 83 years. | The death of Mr Geo. T. AngHF, founder of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, at the age of 86, occurred recently in .Boston (U.S.A.) Many horses were adorned with crape in respect to his memory. The death of Mr C. P. Roberts, at Oamaru at the age of 80 years, removes an old Otago colonist. Mr Roberts arrived in Otago from Victoria in 1863, and was for many years located in the Naseby district, but for over 30 years he had resided at Livingstone, and in Oamaru. Mr Laurence Webster, a son of Mr M. M. Webster, of Nelson, has been appointed General Manager for Australasia for the Eastern Extension Telegraph) Company, with headquarters in Adelaide. Mr Webster was one of the first New Zealanders to join the company. A complimentary supper is to be given by the Institute of Marine Engineers at Weilington on Monday next, when tne gold emblems of the institute will be presented to the Hons. J. Carroll, G. Fowlds, R. McKenzie, and C. M. Luke, M.L.C., and Messrs J. P. Luke, M.P., H. C. Tewsley, M. McLean, N. McLean, W. M. Hanlon, Geo. Joachim, W. A. Flavell, and A. J. Arnot (Sydney)..
