The Prime Minister (Mr Deakin) has announced that the Imperial Government has cabled, intimating its cordial acceptance of the offer of a Dreadnought, or such alternative as it may suggest. He hopes in a few days to be able to announce the precise form the gift will take. Mr Deakin states that the Federal Cabinet has not yet determined what means to adopt for raising the necessary funds. "NOT A PARTY QUESTION." Received June 9, 8.50 a.m. OTTAWA, June 8. The "Free Press," a Liberal Organ, suggests that Sir F. W. Borden, Leader of the Opposition in the Canadian Parliament, should participate in the Imperial Conference on Defence, to be held in July, as defence was not a party question.
