BIDEFORD.

(From a Correspondent.) For the last three weeks crutching operations have been' in full swing throughout the district, but now this work is practically finished. On the Bowlands Estate some 18,000 sheep were dealt with, and judging by the careful manner in which the crutchings have been got up their sale price should be satisfactory. I note on this property some much . needed reforms have been effected by the manager, Mr Gray, viz., the mens' accommodation has been considerably improved in the shape of a new cottage. A really well-designed cow-vard and dairy with concrete floor, calf pens, etc., should minimise labour greatly, and be a comfort to both man and beast. The large woodshed erected near the woolshed with its sawing plant provides a means of doing a great deal of useful work during the wet weather. Other useful buildings are also "on the wing," and should add greatly to the successful working of the property. JRabbits appear to have increased during the past year. Poisoning has not been so successful as last season. Dogs and trapping are being resorted to, which should ,check any further progress of the rabbit. On Messrs Wrsghly Bros.' property pipe draining will be carried out on the lower flatlands, which should greatly enhance the grow ing capacity, and be of imm'ense value for the better feeding off of green and root crops during winter months. In spite of the prevailing low prices at home for our mutton and ainb, farmers generally considerthe outlook as excellent. The values for both cattle and sheep have been fairly good; wool is booming and there is plenty . of winter feed about.
