CARSWELLS CRICKET CLUB SOCIAL.

i (From Our Tenui Correspondent.) TE-NUI, June 2. The Carswells Cricket Club social and presentations of trophies took I pla le last Friday evening, under most favourable conditions. Visitors were present from all parts of the district and all speak in high pra'.se ! of the warm hospitality extended to ! them by the energetic and courteous ' secretary (Mr Curtis), and the members of the cricket club. The eathering was held in Awatoitoi woolshed, kindly lent for the occasion by Mr H. Morrison. The shed was artistically decorated with bunting and evergreens. The pretty dresses worn by the ladies gave the dance room a brilliant effect. Mr H. Morrisoon (President of the Club), in presenting the trophies to the winners, stated that cricket was several hundred years old and although |the game has altered in ; many respects in the evolution of civilisation, it still retains the principle of cultivating good feeling. He (the speaker) was pleased to say, that Carswells Cricket Club haa a fair share of success in their matches, ' and this pleasant gathering was proof in itself of the kindly feeling among its members. Mr Morrison then presented the following trophies:—Mr E. Reeves, | highest batting average, silver' cup; Mr J. Munro, second highest batting average, medal; Mr A. Ronalds, best bowlihg average, medal; Mr R. Leach, best fielder, pipe. The music was supplied by Mr | Fawcett, and gave general satisI faction.
