METEOROLOGICAL.

Mr H. G. Groves, Bush Grove, reports as follows:—The rainfall for the month of May was 3.41 points. The maximum fall was 1.87 points on the 11th. Rain fell on 14 days. The maximum temperature for the month was 70 on the Sth, and the minimum temperature was 29 on the 28th. The rainfall for May, 1908, was 3.15 points. Mr J. C. Boddington reports as follows: —Rain fell on 19 days in May on the Upper Plain. The maximum fall in*24 hours was 1.92 inches on the 12th, and the minimum was 1 p.iint on the Bth and 22nd. The total for the month was 4.62 inches, as against 3.59/ 5.25, 9.69, 9.62 and 2.94 in. for 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, and 1908, and the total for the five months was 16.34 inches, as against 15.48, 14.85, 20.33, 29.79, and 12.62 for the corresponding periods in 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, and 1908. . Bates' general weather forecast: —A westerly area of low pressure is now approaching the South Island and unsettled and stormy weather is probable, particularly south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint; northerly winds strong to gale are probable in the South, and moderate to strong for the same direction soon elsewhere; barometer falling everywhere, especially in the Southern districts, where the lowest is expected on 3rd inst.
