CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Friday. The funeral of the late Mrs C. Sewell took place this afternoon, at the Clareville Cemetery, the cortege being a large and representative one. The casket was covered with a number of floral tributes, and the service at the grave was of an impressive character. The Carterton Gun Club will hold a "shoot" on Thursday afternoon next, in Messrs Shaw and Cole's i paddock. In view of the chainpion- j ship meeting at Greytown next month, there should be a good attendance of competitors. This afternoon Empire Day was celebrated at the local school, but unfortunately the chilrden were prevented from saluting the flag through rain setting in early. Mr W. G. Buchanan, M.P., and the Rev. W. J. Elliott (acting chairman of the School Committee) were present, and delivered appropriate addresses to the scholars. The many friends of Mrs L. Greathead, of Belvedere, will regret to hear that she is at present in ill health. Mr C. Lurerizen, a well known 3'ettler of Parkvale, who has for some time past been a sufferer from sciatica, will leave shortly on a trip to Rotorua. Mr John Brown, postmaster, of Carterton, is expected back from his annual holiday to-morrow week.
