MASTERTON HOMING PIGEON CLUB.

Although the season had practically closed, a young bird race from Woodville was flown yesterday by the Masterton Homing Pigeon Club. Mr Joseph Dixon presented a special trophy for this race, and the competition was very keen. The entry, although not large, comprised the bent birds in the Club, and they put up a splendid performance considering the unsettled weather they had to fly in. The stationmaster at Woodville kindly liberated the birds at 1 p.m., and the winning bird (Mr H. W. Lett's Apollodoris) "homed" at 2.17 p.m., closely followed by the second and third birds. Messrs W. Hoar and J. .Bradbury acted as judges, and the following is the result:— Mr fl. W. Lett's "Apollodoris," I,olsyds per minute 1 Mr W. Dowling's"Dame Fortune," I,ollyds per minute 2 Mr J. Bradbury's "Mystify," I,oosyds per minute 3 The members are arranging amongst themselves for a novel race to take place next Thursday from Dannevirke. It will be compulsory for each member intending to compete to enter three birds, and must "clock" them all in before his time counts. In addition- to this, each "team'-' will be liberated at fifteen minutes' interval, and altogether it will be a complete departure from the usual mode of racing, and should prove an interesting event.
