MAYORAL INSTALLATION.
NEW COUNCILLORS WELCOMED. The newly elected Mayor and Council met at the Council Chambers last evening, when the statutory installation eventuated. The Mayor (Mr P. L. Rollings) and the following Councillors were present:—Crs. J. H. Pauling, Jas. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, K. Rigar, W. Pragnell, J. C. Ewington, J. Prentice and J. Yarr. The Mayor expressed pleasure in being returned to perform another year's duties. He had two reasons for this. The first was the fact of his association with last year's councillors, who still occupied municipal office, and the second was his gratification in working with the newly elected members. Onerous, kut pleasant, had been the work of last year, and he hoped that the present year's operations would be as satisfactory. Although his views could no 1 ; always be' expected to coincide with those of councillors, he would always strive to deal fairly with them, and retain respecc as chairman. While he was pleased to wel - come the old councillors, he could not help regretting the absence of a portion of the old regime, and he considered that their, endeavours were deserving of appreciation. To the three gentlemen with whom he had not previously had the joleasure of I working, he extended a welcome, I and an assurance of consideration and I attention to their views. In conclusj ion, his Worship said that he was sure they would all work harmoniously, and as a result of their joint deliberations, would promote the advancement of the town.
