Received May 5, 8.20 a.m. CONSTANTINOPLE, May 4., When the Adana massacres were renewed on 25th April, the soldiers and Bastii-bazouks fired volleys into an Armenian school harbouring 2,000 refugees. The building was soon ablaze. Those emerging from it were shot, and many of the remainder were incinerated. FOR RELIEF OF DISTRESS. A COMMITTEE FORMED. Received May 5. 8.41 a.m. BEIRUT, May 4. A relief committee has been formed here, under the chairmanship of the American Consul-General. The committee appeals for £IO,OOO on behalf of the sufferers at Adana, Alexandretta, Tarsus, Mersina, Latakia, and Antioch. LATE SULTAN'S CORRESPONDENCE. DISCOVERIES AT YILDIZ. Received May 5, 8.10 a.m. CONSTANTINOPLE, May 4. Nadir Aga, who was chief Eunuch to the deposed Sultan Abd-ul-Hamid, and who was implicated in the reactionary plot, was sentenced to death, and then reprieved. With his help considerable sums of money were discovered at Yildiz Palace, and also Abd-ul-Ham!d's enrresponence with the Sovereign of a Great Power. I The exodus of Abd-ul-Hamid's harem continues. Tewfik l'a3ha's Cabinet has resigned. Hilmi Pasha, who was Grand Vizier at the time of tba garrison's outbreak, will probably be reappointed to the position. „______
deceived May 5, 10.30 p.m. CONSTANTINOPLE, May 5. Tewhik Pasha will remain in office until after the ceremony of investing the Sultan with the Sword of ©ttoman. LONDON, May 5. Reuter reports that Mohammed relinquishes £5,000, or 20 per cent, of his monthly civil list. The Chamber has warmly applauded this announcement.
FURTHER MASSACRES. Received May 6, 12.30 a.m. LONDON, May 5. Further massacres are reported from Adana. Four thousand soldiers are looting, shooting residents, and burning houses. Both the French schools and Josephine Convent have been destroyed. Fears are entertained regarding the American missions at Nadjin and Tarsus. It is estimated that 6.500 have been killed at Adana, and 30.000 killed in the entire prjvince. Thirty-five thousand are homeless and penniless.
