The ship Meletta, which has arrived here from La Plata, had a thrilling experience. When twelve days out the vessel ran into an immense icefield, which it took three days and four nights to traverse. She travelled 343 miles in the ice. Some of the bergs were 700 feet high. ' The difficulties of navigation were increased by a dense fog. The ship had several narrow escapes from beng crushed by the ice, but sha succeeded in escaping undamaged.
