FIVE HUNDRED FAMILIES HOMELESS.
DAMAGES AMOUNTS TO MILLION STERLING.

NEW YORK, April 5.
One of the most destructive conflagrations that have occurred in Texas is reported from Fort Worth, the capital of Tarrant County, Texas, on the west fonc of the Trinity river, thirty-three miles west of DallaVby rail.
r*J[hetown, which'has a population of about 35,000,~ does a* large trade in cotton, there being a number of important mills.
The fire soon had a firm hold and despite all efforts spread with great rapid ity.
Ihe'inhabitantsjwere thrown into a state of consternation at tbe headway made by the fire, and the utmost excitement prevailed, some of the scenes beggaring description. A number of miraculous escapes arfi reported.
When at last the fir? was got uncontrol thatjone hundred residences had been stroyed, and also four churches and two schools. The damage is estimated at one million sterling. """"
Five hundred families have been rendered homeless.
