CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Wednesday. The local banks were the only places of business to observe a holiday here to-day in honor- of St. Patrick's Day. Last evening a confirmation service was held in St. Mark's Church, I when about twenty candidates were I presented, and confirmed by Bishop I Wallis. There was a large congregation present. Bro. P. Molloy presided at a meeting of the Friendly .Societies' Council, last night, when it was reported that Dr. Smyth, an M.D. of the Edinburgh University, had arrived in Carterton, and would shortly commence practice. The chairman, as one of the trustees of the late Friendly Societies' Sports Club, handed in the bank-book showing a credit of £64 7s, and with a view H utilising the amount, „the delegates were instructed to recommend the various societies to approach the trustees of the South Wairarapa .Hospital, through the Council, with a view to securing a bed for Friendly Society members in that institution.
