TINNED MEAT FOR BRITISH ARMY.
CHICAGO FIRM SECURES CONTRACT. LONDON, February 12. Referring to the fact of the War Office placing a contract for tinned meat with a Chicago firm, the newspapers B*. ate that this was due to the in&bility of colonial packers to supply meat of the quality and in the quantity required. Representatives of the colonial packers state that they did not tender owing to their objection to the replacement of one clause in ihe conditions by another. The War Office nas informed Mr Taverner, Victorian Agent-General, that it intends shortly inviting tenders for half a million pounds of meat, for delivery in the autumn.
