RECHABITE CONFERENCE.

PUBLIC MEETING

Tie Rechabite Conference was lrou?ht to,a onclu-don last evening witn a public meetirg and concert in the Foresters' Hall. There was a largj attendance. Bro. C. E Daniell, who occupied the chair, said that he regratted that there were not more delegates able to stay for the meeting that evening.

Bro. Eastho 33 (Secretary of Masterto't Tent) stated in his annual re- ; port that there were 89 tenefit nembsrs in the Order at the end -f the year. They hal enrolled 2i) new members during the year. There were rov 94 members in Tent. The total funds were £668 6s 2d, beine an increase ot the year previous of £9O 18s 6d. Thi amount paid out d iring the year ii sick pav totalled £l4, thus showing that the Lodge was a very healthy one. Bro. Easthope said he hop?d that members of the Masterton Lod?e would make a special effort to i icrease the number to 200 by the end of the year. Bro. Fathers, in a short address, spoke on rapid growth of the Order. He said that in 1857 the number of Recbabitea was about 6,000- Now, in 1909, there were over 5,000.000. Bro. Fraser spoke on much the same lines as Bro. Fathers. Bro- Calder also delivered an adT2ss in the course of which he said he was sorry that so many of the delegates had returned home, but had the weather been fine, he was sure ■, thev would have stayed to the concluding meeting. The following musical programme was rendered:—Pianoforte solo,, Miss Tait; song, Mi*s Miller; red-! tation, Mr Kemp (encore); violin < solo. Mr Burrows; song, Miss B. Joy; song, Mr Mannell. Bro. Calder moved a vote of thanks to all thosa who had assisted in the programme during the evening. The motion was carried by acclamation. Ths Chairman thanked the delegates who were able to stay for being Dresent at the function, and hoped that they would return to their respective districts resolved to increase their numbers, and that their visit to this Conference would stimulate their work in the cause of temperance.
