CARTERTON NEWS.

-(From Our Reflident Reporter.) Wednesday. The South Wairarapa Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Association, whose headquarters are here, have received advice that the North Island Poultry Association has allotted them June 30th and July Ist as dates for the annual Show. The Society has alsd been allotted the championship for Buff Leghorns and Pekin ducks. Last year the championship competed for at this Show were Indian Runner ducks and Dorkk-g fowla. The former was won by Mr R. E. Bannister, of Palmerston North, with a duck under twelve months, while no award was made in the latter, owing to poor competition. If the holder desires to retain the duck championship he will have to compete at Hawera, which Society has it this year. , The erection of a dwelling at the southern end of the town, .for Mr Thomas Aplin, is proceeding apace, the framework being in position. Mr J. S. Pepper will leave hera on Monday for Greynmuth, where he has purchased a business.

The Carterton Methodist Church choir will hold their annual picnic to-, morrow at the Black Bridge. It was originally intended to have held it on Taumata Island, but a number of the members of the choir could not get away until late in the day. Last evening the anniversay of the Dalefield Methodist Sunday School was celebrated. An tmcouraging report was read and adopted, and the following programme rendered: Recitation, Miss P. West; trio, Misses F. Tunmcliffe, Ruby Neilson and Fanny Sage; part song, scholars and teachers; address, Rev. W. W. Avery; song, Miss Elsie Jones; recitation, Miss b'lorrie Tunnicliffe. The Rev. W. J. Elliott, who was chairman, distributed the prizes, the highest number of marks awarded in the school being obtained by Leslie Gordon in boys, and Mabel Tunmcliffe among the girls. A vote of thanks was nassed to the teaching staff, and acknowledged by Mr C. Jones. The matron of the South Wairarapa Hospital thanked the school for giits of flowers sent to the patients. On inquiry this afternoon, I learn that there is a little improvement in the condition of Mr T. Hart, of Ashhurst, who is lying seriously ill here.
