THE CAPITAL COMPROMISE. Received February 9, 10.25 p.m. LONDON. February 9. The Capetown correspondent of "The Time 3" report* that the opinion is everywhere tending to accept the capital compromise. It is considered that owing to the immense distances, it will be a good thing that Ministers and officials will be obliged to travel about, as they will then see the varying aspects of prtblems. Hence the dual capital is welcomed. BASUTOLAND AS AN ADJUNCT OF ORANGIA. BASUTOS OBJECT. Received February 9. 9 a.m. LONDON, February 8. Four Basuto chiefs are the guests of the Colonial Office They name to England to interview Kinz Edward, because they resent the idea of Basutoland btcoming an adjunct of Orangia in the event of South African unification. They desire that Basutoland should ramain a distinct unit.
