INJURED BY A FALL OF EARTH. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 5. Edward Ryan, a City Council employee, while employed tunnelling, was struck by a heavy fall of earth. Fortunately his head was not covered. He was quickly extricated and removed to the hospital, but his condition is serious. A CHILD DROWNED. By Tel n graph -Press Association. PALMERSTON N., February 5. A child named Elsie Hansen, twelve years of age, was drowned in the Manawatu river to day while playing at the waterside with others. The body has not yet been recovered. A SHOCKING DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association, TIMARU, February 5. David Given, 46 years of age, foreman stowe mason on St. Mary's (English) Church building, met with a shocking death this afternoon. He was employed dressing big slabs of Oamaru stone, which were on end, when in turning one a strong south wind took charge and toppled the slab over. Given was knocked down, and fell with his head and neck on a smaller block of stone, being crushed between it and the big slab. Death was almost instantaneous.

DUNEDIN, February 5. Alice Davie, aged thirty-one years, was admitted to the hospital this morning juffering from a wound in the throat. It appears that she has been despondent of late, but her condition had been much brighter for the past week. Her husband waking at 5 o'clock this morning asked her what kind night she had passed, and she replied right enough. An hour later he missed her. Hey found her huddled up in the wash-' house with her throat cut. An operation was performed at the hospital, and as far as can be gathered the wound (which was made with her husband's razor) is not likely to cause death. By Telegraph—Pruss Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 5. Agnes Florence Adams, 27 years of age, drowned herself in the Estuary at Redcliffe to-day, whilst her nurse was telephoning for a doctor to treat the deceased for wax match poisoning. A verdict was returned that the deceased drowned herself whilst in a state of unsound mind.
