Rayner, of Taratahi, wrote'!: to stale thai; he considered the judg'- j ing of Shropshire sheep was at fault i at the various Shows. The writer ! suggested that wool .seemed to be the i main consideration, and he considered 1 that as t';e black-faced sheep were ' mainly mutton animals that latter 1 quality should be the chief item in j.J awarding points. He suggested that ! i instructions should be issued to ! i judges as follows: — Constitution, M body deep, shoulders wide, good \ c loins, legs set well apart, bi*east j i wide, and deep neck well set on body, ! < H) points; wool and colour, 7 points. I i The writer concluded by hoping ! * that the Committee would see its ; < way to amend the present system, j 1 as he believed Shrop?hires received , 1 the worst treatment. '
The general impression of the meeting was that the letter had been received rather too late for any alteration as suggested. The letter was formally laid on the table. A letter was read from the Canterbury A. and P. Association suggesting that the time had arrived when the Draught Horse Stud Book should be closed after the fact had been fully advertised and ample time given to those breeders who may wish to register stock. The letter suggested that it might be more expedient to form a Draught Horse Association of New Zealand, independent of any A. and P. Association. The Southern Association asked that an expression of opinion be given by the Masterton Association. A suggestion contained in the letter was that the back numbers of the Stud Book should be reprinted in a consolidated volume.
Mr W. Perry thought, the letter touched upon a matter which needed the action suggested, and on his motion the Committee passed a resolution favourable to the Canterbury Association's communication. The Ground Committee's report was adopted as follows; —There were present—Messrs H. Morrison (in the chair), J. 0. Bidwill, J. P. Perry, Win, Cooper, E. Harper, J. Strang and D. McGregor, junr. Mr W. D, Watson sent an apology. Correspondence was read from T. Lock and McKenzie and Edwards, re the sole right for the merry gu-round and "ocean wave." It was decided to give T. Lock the option. The putting into order of the Showgrounds was left to the Chairman of the Committee.
