Yesterday the fluid which issued from the water pipes of householders in Masterton suggested that the thorough Council had sprung a pleasant surprise on the public and inaugurated a free municipal milk supply most conveniently laid on. The water appeared to be highly impregnated with lime, and was as white as diluted milk, leaving sedimentary matter in receptacles in which it was placed. The liquid was also of the consistency of thin syrup, and effervesced audibly. Whatever properties the fluid possessed, medicinal or otherwise, it certainly boasted a most original tint for what is dispensed under a "water" rate.
