REEFTON MINING DISPUTE.
A NEW PHASE. POSITION BECOMING CRITICAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 30. The Reefton mining dispute has entered a new phase. The settlement hoped to be arrived at by the accident insurance companies giving low rates has been squashed. The companies, including the Government Office, absolutely refuse to take policies without medical examination.
As the position is becoming critical, the workers are very indignant at the Government Department refusing to take a risk imposed by the Government itself, and throwing the whole risk on' the shoulders of employers. The effect if the men refuse to work on the ground of non-production of a medical certificate will be disastrous.
