EKETAHUNA NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Tuesday. Mr and Mrs K. Parsons left the district for Wairua last week. Mr Parsons bad bemi a resident of for many ye rs, airi iiad always taken a keen interest in all social functions in that district. He was also Chairman of the School Committee. Mr Parsons will carry the good wishes of the whole district with mm to his new nome. Mr B. Mor.-iss has been elected to fill the vacancy on the Rongokokako School Committee, caused by the retirement of Mr Parsons. Mr IV'orriss was elected Chairman.' The Rongokokako Cheese Factorv is having a very prosperous season. Tne supply of n.ilis to ante this year is 7,500 gallons in advance of the quantity received for the corresponding period last year. There is an abundance of feed in the district, but for some unaccountable reason the supply is not increasing as expected, 'i'rte farmers are at a loss to explain the reason of this. Various reasons are given—one is that the grass matured to quickly. Another is that the cows are too iat and that they will give a bigger supply at the end of the season and probably remain in longer. The Mayor and a party motored through to Rotorua on Christmas Day. The Town Clerk and his staff are also away, and the question has arisen as to who is in charge of our important town, as evidently no substitutes were appointed. The Eketahuna Mounted Rifles will go into camp on Nilsson's Island on January 14th, and will remain in camp till the 24th. A sports meeting is being arranged for-Anniversary Day, when the public will be invited to attend, and will be entertained at afternoon tea by the corps. A committee, consisting of Captain Page, Lieuts. Prendeville and Farmer, Sergts. Greathead, Hill, Bedding and Doyle, Corporal Potts and Troopers Rashleih and Wise (secretary), have been appointed to make the arrangements. The committee will meet at the secretary's office on Tuesday night. In an interview with business people here, the question, "How did business generally in December and the Christmas Eve takings compare with last year?" brought the same answer from all: "The month was better, and Christmas Eve very much betteii The cash takings were far in excess of last year, and the bookings generally better." The business people have decided to keep open till 10 o'clock on New Year's Eve, and close for the whole day on Saturday.
