WORKERS' MUTUAL BENEFIT BUILDING SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the shareholders of the Workers' Mutual Benefit Building Society of Masterton was held at the Society's office last evening. Mr R. Krahagen, Chairman of the Society, presided.

The Secretary read the annual report and balance-sheet, which, on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr J. C. Ewington, was adopted.

The election of three new directors resulted in Messrs R. Krahagen, H. 0. Fowles and J. C. Ewington being returned. Mr G. W. Sellar was appointed shareholders' auditor for the ensuing year.

A letter was received from the Directors of the Workman's Friend Building Society, asking whether the shareholders of the Workers* Mutual Benefit Building Society would be willing to allow the former Society to amalgamate with them. The Chairman stated that he would be glad if the shareholders present would express an opinion on the matter, as it would strengthen the hands of his directorate when going into the matter. Of course nothing 1 could be done without calling a special meeting of the shareholders to decide finally as to the absorption or otherwise of the other Society. . It was resolved, on the motion of Mr 0. Pragnell, seconded by Mr D. Morton, that the directors of both Societies meet and discuss the matter in detail and report to the shareholders of the Society later. Mrl.u. Pragnell. moved a' vote of thanks to the Directors and tl® Secretary for the assiduity and care that had been displayed by them in looking after the affairs of the Sc* ciety, which had resulted in such a satisfactory balance-sheet as had just been placed before the shareholders. The Chairman and Secretary briefly returned thanks.

Mr D; Morton moved, and IV r W. S. Lett seconded, that the fees of the Directcrs be increased to £2 each per annum.

A vote of thanks was accorded to the Press for publishing reports of the Society's meetings.

A meeting of Directors ,was held' subsequently. Mr R.Krahagen occupied the chair, and Messrs A. Gardner, J. W. Gordon, H". 0. Fowles, W. H. Cole, T. S. Crssswell, J. C. Ewington and Prentice were also present. It was resolved to hold another meeting of the Directors on Monday, January 4th, to discuss the details of the arrangements necessary to be laid before the Directors of the Workman's Friend BuildingSociety, with the object of amalgamating the two Societies.
